Workshop
Class Size: 24
Teacher: Ineke Berlyn
Tap into your wicked side with this exciting Black Magic workshop with Ineke Berlyn! By using darker fabrics and unique techniques, this class will make you feel magical with your quilting skills. Ineke will allow you to take risks and dive in to areas of the craft that you have always desired!
To get in touch with your darker quilting side, you’ll start with a simple black piece of cotton fabric. Ineke will guide you through printing with thermofax screens and discharging paste to iron the fabric and see the colors disappear. You will then print over it using the same screen, but this time you will use the bold and vibrant colors of gold and/or silver fabric paint to create a sumptuous piece of textile. This can then be stitched with metallic threads and you can dress it up with even more beads, sequences, shishas or metallic organzas. Your piece can be made into a small bag, cushion, Filofax cover or a case for your glasses…anything your wicked side desires!
Please Note: Kits will be available.

Cathedral Window with Bernadette Falvey
Workshop
Class Size: 24
Teacher: Bernadette Falvey
Cathedral Window is the most elegant and rich of quilting methods. The folding of fabric, the multi-dimensional aspects off the “windows”, the layers of stitching and fabric all combine to create a wonderful, complex looking piece. One of the differences between Cathedral Window quilting and other methods is that as all the pieces are folded individually, they require no backing or binding. The secret is that the process is not difficult and with a little patience and learning, you can do it easily.
As a background to the workshop we will have on display an antique quilt to give a glimpse of history and to inspire and connect participants to the roots of quilting. There will also be examples of bags, cushions, wall hangings and dresses.
The workshop is a worthwhile opportunity to invest 3 hours of your time to learn or become reacquainted with this method. It is a hands on quilt session. All the fabrics and materials will be provided and you can expect to come away having started a 16” x 16” piece which you can then use for a wide variety of purposes.
Cost: €35 per person (Plus €7 for supplies that will be collected at the class.)

Rose Windows with Gail Lawther
Workshop
Class Size: 24
Teacher: Gail Lawther
The spectacular rose windows of European cathedrals are famous the world over, and have inspired this workshop. Stitch a beautiful and colourful rose window quilt – they look fabulous in Christmassy colours, but are equally great in any toning batch of fabrics. The basic applique couldn't be easier; the bright patches are fused to the dark (or light) background, then you can quilt and/or embellish the design as you wish by hand or machine, or edge the fused patched with zigzag, satin stitch, or any other fancy machine stitch. During the workshop you'll build up a design ready for quilting, and we'll also explore different ways of quilting – as well as how to use the offcuts for making greetings cards, and how to create your own unique rose window designs from the templates provided!
