Our festival "officially" begins on Thursday evening, June 6, 2013, at the Galway Bay Hotel in downtown Galway.
For one hour, you will have an opportunity to enjoy a champagne reception and meet quilters from all over the world. Our IQFOI staff will be your special hosts during this reception, where you will have views overlooking Galway Bay, making this a perfect spot to sip champagne and listen to Irish Music.
Following this, you will hear the sound of bagpipes as everyone is invited into the Grand Ballroom where you will take your seat and hear the IQFOI opening ceremony welcome by managing director Jim West. This will be followed by a key note address by the legendary Eleanor Burns.
A delicious specially prepared three-course dinner will be served, complete with a choice of wines. Following dinner, Ireland's #1 music, song and dance show, Trad on the Prom, will provide a one-hour Riverdance-type show.
This evening will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your festival experience. This Grand Reception sold out very quickly this last year, so we highly recommend you secure your place as soon as possible. Seats are limited! (We are currently sold out on the Grand Reception please contact our office if you would like to be put on the waiting list!)
